3 Reasons Why You Should Update Your Headshot Every Year

Ah yes, the ringing in of the new year!

Well, ok, if I am being honest I am not writing this around the new year. But the sentiment still rings true!

2022 is here and with it will being a whole new year of exciting adventures and business endeavors. That also means it is time to update your headshot!

With each start to the new year I have a few things I like to do to prepare myself. In the months before I like to buy the next year’s planner and add all I can to it. I like to do a quick clean out of my desk to make sure I am not holding on to any extra little things. And most importantly, I make a lot of planning decisions for my business.
One of the easiest decisions I make is to update my headshots each year. It is important for all businesses to have accurate, recent, and versatile images for their brands. That is why the new year is the perfect time to plan your photo session.

So let’s talk about why you should update your headshots and personal branding images each year.

Most importantly, people who work with you want to know you! they want to know not only what you do, but who you are and what you look like. With social media and the online world there are so many opportunities for your future clients to know what you look like that not having an updated headshot portrait may raise red flags.
You should also consider the fact that people change. You may not have totally rebranded from the ear before, but that does not mean you haven’t changed! A lot for he time people change and do not even realize it! Having updated headshots is the simplest way to capture this subtle change.
And most importantly, updating your headshots allows you the opportunity to find inspiration! A photoshoot can bring out all kinds of inspiration! I love to encourage my personal branding clients to bring multiple props to their sessions. This can be do titled for headshot sessions too! Use the final shot of your headshot session to show off a bit more of your personality and fun side!
