25 Instagram Ideas, Captions, Prompts & Post for Photographer


Being a photographer on instagram can be hard work!

It is easy to be constantly torn between wanting to share everything at once and not wanting to share at all! Then there are days where you just want to teach and share all the knowledge you have! It’s tough out there! There are so many ways to categories instagram ideas, and I think they all have their benefits. Above all, a little bit of organization can be very therapeutic.

So to help with this never-ending internal conflict, I have created this FREE list of 25 Instagram Caption Prompts and Ideas specifically for photographers.  Before we dive into this post, be sure to join my email list!

Alright enough chit-chat, let’s get into the ideas . . .
  • Share your favorite local thrift shop to prop shop
  • Post a throwback photo from when you first started in photography (bonus points if you can give a story on how you’ve grown)
  • Share an old family photo. In other words, tell a story.

  • Explain why clients like to book with you – For example, Do you tell jokes? Do you invite the pet dog?
  • Tell everyone about your week! What do you have planned for fun? Who’s gallery are you working on?
  • Play three truths and a lie! Ask people to guess the lie.
  • Make a whole post about what/who keeps you motivated
  • Share an inspiring book
  • Give your favorite photography tip!
  • Share your favorite lens
  • Show off a print! Is it a little goofy to take a photo of a photo you took and printed just to share a photo of it? Yes but that’s ok!
  • Share you morning coffee along with your plans for the day
Don’t over think it! You’ve got this!
  • Talk about your favorite shooting location. For instance, I love Bodega Bay, CA so I often share this location.
  • Share an item from your wishlist 
  • Share a before and after edit 
  • Write an about you! #MeetThePhotographer and #BehindTheLens are some of my favorite tags for this
  • Do a mini giveaway! This can fit any kind of photography business. You can do a while photoshoot in the giveaway, a free printed photo or a coupon code for your clients print shop.
  • Give behind the scenes knowledge on your photography process (from first client contact to photo delivery)
  • Shoutout a photographer who inspires you! This is also a great way to build community! 
  • Find a quote that inspired you and share your own quote graphic! This is one of my favorite things to do since I can incorporate my brand colors. 
Instagram ideas for photographer
  • Utilize Instagram Stories! Share some of your favorite shots or open the floor to a q&a! 
  • Use Instagram Reels to show a behind the scenes of your editing! I personally love sharing time lapses of my editing, it is so exciting to watch it all come together in a short video. 
  • Share styling tips! One of the questions you will always get as a photographer is “what should I wear to my session?” – so – share tips to help your current and future clients! 
  • Share a “micro photography” shot. However, this doesn’t have to actually be taken on a micro lens, you can share a nature closeup, a detail shot from a session, whatever fits your brand. 
Instagram ideas for photographer
  • Use the caption to share your schedule or open dates! My favorite method of this is specific to grads. If I have an extra opening for a grad session I do my best to share that date in an Instagram post alongside a grad form the same school. Above all you want to use social media to share.
  • BONUS PROMPT: If you have a pet SHOW THEM OFF! For example, I love sharing my goofy dog Daisy on my Instagram stories, definitely be sharing your furry and scaly friends!
